About Us

We believe that communication has the power to change lives, transform communities and make the planet a safe place for human, animals and plants. Words well articulated and conveyed through the right medium can cause significant change in behaviour of individual, communities and institutions.

At MACCI, we deploy various tools of social communication to change the behaviour of individual and institutions.

We believe that the link between change and status quo is the way a message is transmitted.

For instance, climate change is perceived as a complex scientific phenomenon, explained only by hard scientific metaphors. We are working to change that narrative by introducing day to day communication to simplify the complex scientific communication of climate change.

As devastating as Climate Change is on all human and non human existence, these dangerous effects have been ignored or misunderstood because of poor or ineffective communication.

The adoption of various International Treaties, Conventions and Protocols are important steps to get governments and decision making organizations to act. But in reality, the real negotiations begin with changing the lifestyle of individuals, corporations and communities to adapt to the new realities of the effect of climate change. And these can be achieved through engaging effective communication.

Working with communities to change behaviour, promoting climate friendly products from private sector businesses, lobbying government to prioritize climate friendly policies and focusing on cutting the human activities that constitute key drivers to climate change, these are the focus of MACCI communication strategies.

Domesticating and implementing climate change treaties can be challenging, and in Africa it is even more challenging.

At MACCI, we work with partners in policy, governance and strategy to push for adaptation of global climate treaties, using sets of simplified information tools that communicate to the woman in a rural community who worries over her poor farm yields or the family whose cost for health care has increased because of the excessive heat wave.

Behavioral change can be inspired by information; our target is to provide information that can help people of all social classification in Africa to understand the impact of climate change and embrace the urgent need to adopt new climate friendly lifestyle.

Our focus on climate specific research is designed to inspire policy makers, government and key decision makers in a wide range of organizations to evolve, adopt and implement climate friendly policies.

At MACCI our communication engagement is designed to propel change in behavior and in policy responses to climate change.

Who We Are

Behavioral Change Communication

In Africa, a large population lives in rural communities, some in hard to reach regions where access to education, health care and basic life saving information may be difficult to access.

These rural communities make up more than 90% of the farming population. Reaching these regions with the message and impact of climate change can improve level of response for adaptation.

Research

It is established that lobbying and negotiations are easy with facts and figures. We lace our work with the public and institutions with empirical evidences and research. Working with academic institutions across Africa, we conduct surveys and research on varied aspects of climate change.

Policy

We work with local authorities, governments, legislators, International organizations and other institutions with the influence and capacity to evolve and implement development policies, programs and strategies to reduce the impact of climate change. We also communicate and share policies that have worked with communities and governments.
